Photo Ninja – $129
Photo Ninja is a stand alone application which also offers full RAW file processing as well as Noise Ninja 3.0.
The interface is well laid out with a Histogram located in the top left, followed by the file’s Exif information. Directly below are all the available RAW file adjustments, Noise Ninja 3.0 is in this list. At the base is a useful Browser, double click on an image to open it in the main window.
The Noise Ninja offers; Smoothing, Residual noise and detail, Strength and Defringe. The noise reduction options are basic but worked well on our test file. However, when used in conjunction with the other Adjustments and the browser, the Photo Ninja suite becomes an attractive option.
NDNoise – Freeware
NDNoise is a stand alone application with a good selection of controls, plus a separate Expert window.
The Noise filtering, Smoothing, Resharpening and Retexturing control sliders are in increments of five up to 100. A fast preview rectangle is available to enable you to see a small portion of the picture with any adjustment applied. A drop down list enables you to view the Original or Filtered file, an Original/Filtered setting switches between the two views. There isn’t a facility to save your settings. Final rendering is not very fast and PNG is the only file format available for saving.
NDNoise may not have the same stylish interface as others in this review, but it does reduce most noise albeit with some softening of the image.
