HP 8750: What's THAT?!?!??

Postby Nitrofunk » Tue Mar 28, 2006 6:39 pm

Hi!
In order to achieve metamerism-free b&w-prints, I've tried the HP PP Satin Matte Paper with the "Use Black Inks only" option and got a very, very weird result: Instead of giving me a neutral b&w-Print, the picture came out with weird, psychedelic magenta and blue colors. I've photographed it (I don't have a flatbed-scanner now) and attached it. Did I do something wrong? All the inks are in their right place. The image was in Grayscale mode, the Printer driver set to "Working Space: AdobeRGB". I've printed via Qimage and when checking the "Print in Greyscale: High Quality"-Box the prints look fine (Colorprinting also works fine). Any idea what I did wrong? Thanks, Peter

After countless test-prints I discovered the reason for the strange colors: When printing b&w and selecting "PPP" in the Paper type-menu in the driver, the pictures have a blue tint and produce these psychedelic colors when using the black ink only option. When setting the paper type to "automatic", prints are just perfect.
Just in case anyone is interested...

Strange, very strange. It'll be a good reference for anyone else who has the same problem, thanks!

Hmm, I actually quite like the effect. It could be used very effectively for art prints
