HP 8050 from HP 8150 colour match??!!!

I have photoshop 7.0 artwork done on another pc with a HP8150 printer.

I myself have the cd of artwork here on my laptop with a similar HP8050 (as i think the 8150 is now discontinued) but i CANNOT get the colours to match!

PLEASE help how i get the same colours for my artwork on this printer? i have tried the printer preferences within Photoshop and general colour settings within Photoshop, but still cant get the colours on paper to match.

surely all artwork doesnt have to be done on excatly the same printer and pc EVERY time?

Any help on any settings would be great. I even have contact with the mate who did the artwork originally and the printing and we have both been through our settings making sure they are the same!!

Anything i have overlooked??

Unfortunately, without the appropriate use of colour management, there's little you can do to get consistent prints between similar (but different) printers. Even if you had used colour management on the original print and were using it not, you probably couldn't get things spot on in this case, especially as you only have a similar (and not identical) printer available.

I think getting an exact match in this case is unachievable. The ink and paper of the original print(s) will have aged - this is particularly likely to cause a colour shift if, as I expect, it's dye rather than pigment ink in use. You may also be using updated ink and/or paper this time round. The similar but not identical printers won't be helping, as will the different printer drivers.


If the need is to get two identical prints, make two new prints.
