what leads etc for 7762 photosmart?

Postby jtw » Tue Dec 05, 2006 3:50 am

As a complete novice with regards to printers, would be grateful if anyone can tell me exactly what i need to get my printer up and running.

I have just bought an HP 7762 photosmart, but it has no leads or manual etc, its just the printer. The seller said i just need a usb lead and an HP power lead.
The seller said he has tested the printer with a lead from another printer and its works fine.

what i would like to know is when i download the user manual do i download the drivers as well and what power lead am i looking for? have searched ebay but have not a clue what i'm looking for  .

would appreciate any help indeed.

many thanks

download manuals and drivers. Wiothout the drivers, the printer gnerally won't install. Check th emanual for the installation procedure, some printers you plug in and then wiat for windows to prompt you for drivers, others you load the dirvers, then plug the pritner in.

Be careful over cables - prices vary a lot, you could end up paying way over the odds. If you bought the printer for a song, you could end up paying more for the cable than the printer. Check prices from pc suppliers on ebay. The big computer shops are probably the biggest rippers-off here.

The USB cable should be hi speed, with a sticker on it saying so. Check that you get the right one (with a flat connection at one end and a 'square' one at the other.

Power cable - check the back of the printer to see which one you need. There are 2 main types, one which has 3 flat pins and one which has 2 small round pins. I don't think this printer takes an external transformer, but check that...
