HP 8250 vs. 7360

Postby abejita » Mon Dec 18, 2006 7:49 am

Hi, this is my first post to your forum. It has been very interesting reading and I am glad that I stumbled upon you.

I bought the 8250 printer this past summer and I absolutely loved it. I was constantly amazed at the pictures that I printed. About a month ago, I started having problems with it not picking up photo paper. I did everything suggested on the HP website, but I could not fix the problem. Rather than order the cleaning kit, I decided to bring it back to Best Buy for repair because I had purchased the extended warranty. When I brought it in, the CS person said that they do not fix this particular problem and I could get a new printer. So, of course they don't sell the 8250 anymore, so I picked the D7360 because it seemed like a comprable printer and it was the same price as the 8250 (when I purchased it)

I have not been happy at all with this printer. I can't quite put my finger on the problem. The nearest I can explain it is that it is like the difference between a picture taken with cheap 2 megapixel and the same picture taken with a high end 6 or 7 megapixel camera.

I am using the same camera (a kodak z740) and the same paper (kodak premium semi-gloss). Has anyone else had this issue? Can you suggest a printer that would have comprable prints to the 8250? I have always been partial to HP photo printers, but I am also willing to try another brand. I would like to stay under $350 or so. I was kind of eyeing the HP B8350.

Sorry for such a long winded first email!! LOL! I would really appriciate your feedback.

Hello Liz

The D7360 looks an interesting printer for the price. I did a quick check for reviews and the impression I get is

1) Prints are a little darker than the 8250
2) The 7360 seemed to produce slightly sharper prints - probably just down to sharpening in the driver
3) Seems to perform much better with HP Premium Plus Photo Paper, giving better saturation and contrast than with the Kodak paper.

What are your actual requirements for a printer, that is what size do you print
