HP are believed to be issuing new drivers including a firmware update soon - possibly imminently to coincide with the consumer launch of Windows Vista. However, we probably won't get to here what's going on until the new drivers are available to download. In other words, we're not likely to get any confirmation until it happens. So far, Vincent has failed to get any statement from HP on their plans.
Increasingly, printers bought now have the October 2006 firmware, which contains various fixes. That said, about the only 'user visible' bug in the July firmware is the one where the printer can crash if it was in standby and you open the Specialist Media Tray. The solution is to press OK on the printer first - a Post It note or similar on the tray to remind you can be helpful if you have a July firmware printer.
My printer, bought before Christmas, has the October firmware.
