HP Canvas Matte

Postby Richie23 » Mon Mar 05, 2007 9:59 pm

Anyone done any post printing tests with UV sprays/laquers to fix and protect this canvas, and which ones do you recommend?

I have some great print results off my HP DJ130nr, with great colour, the laydown of the dye on the canvas is fantastic, and the tonal range is lovely.

Profiling proved to be a pain in the '@£$&', I gave up and do by 'eye', found that before printing, I need to pull the midtones way into the highlights in software, otherwise the highlights are slightly brighter shadows?? Not exactly science - but then it reminds me of a messing around with chemistry in the darkroom kind of experience - and I'm getting the results as I want them now....

Anyone successfully ICC profiled this canvas off their print targets on the 130?

:D

I was advised by a big commercial operation that after 12 hours drying. a cover of Lyson Print Guard spray first, followed 12 hours later by a coat of Acquacryl, by Lumina Coatings, will give the Vivera genuine ink a life of "many decades" hung indoors.

I have heard that Premier Art and Clearjet products are as good as the Lyson.

Of course, what "many decades" means is not clear but these people had used the technique for a long time.

The canvases we do are put on stretchers and, in damp environments they are attacked from the back as moisture seeps through. This I handle in two ways - I tell customers not to let the canvas near dampness, and if in doubt, I coat the back as well, before stretching.

One other thing: I get great color using the HP Premium Plus Satin profile, although blacks are never black on my DJ90.

Thanks very much for your very useful reply to my post. I have ordered a couple of cans of Lyson Printguard, but wasn't aware of the other types of coatings, and will be looking now for a UK supplier to give them a trial on smaller canvas samples.

Thanks also for your tip on trying the Premium Plus Satin profile. I'll give that one a try with the canvas. As I mostly print this Prem-plus satin with this profile anyway, and if its equally ok with my canvases, I will be able to swap between the two medias without too much fuss.

cheers
