HP Driver Problems

Postby Richie23 » Sat Dec 06, 2008 11:47 am

I have a problem with a new HP printer I installed yesterday. My system is OSX (Tiger) with a DJ13nr, and a HP B9180, all running latest OSX drivers. This has worked great for a couple of years, but yesterday I purchased a desktop HP Photosmart C4585 for general office based printing, and after installation of the software drivers/utilities, I found I could no longer print to the DJ130nr. My guess is that the 'HP Device manager' that the HP C4585 uses prevents the mac from sending prints to the DJ130. I also cannot connect to its system maintenance tool, as a message appears saying that the printer (DJ130) is not ready, or switched off, and to try again later. The B9180 is unaffected, but as this device is managed by the same 'HP Device Manager' as the C4585 anyway, that was expected. The DJ130 runs through its own device manager called 'HP Printer Selector', which appears to be disabled after installing the C4585 drivers.

All three are connected via USB, and I can see all printers in the Macs own 'printer setup utility' in the utilities folder. However, if I select the DJ130 and attempt to select the 'utility', it can't load it. To get the DJ130nr working again, I had to remove all HP software, and reinstall from scratch, obviously leaving out the C4585.........a bit of a waste of money

I know this issue is very specific, but does anyone have any ideas into whether I can use this new printer on my current setup?

Did U try driving the office printer vial GutenPrint?

Maybe this works?

BTW - I connect all my printers (now also three of them) vial Ethernet - seems to work better for me and my spouce (especially the reconnecting of the printers would make me crazy) and the big HP 130 NR can rest in a remote corner in the flat :-)

Did you install the HP printer driver update 1.1.1 from Apple? Normally OS X does not require to install any printer driver at all - the canned drivers should do the job.
