Canon Updates EOS M Firmware to Vn 2.0.2

Postby Costas L » Thu Jun 27, 2013 9:40 am

Canon UK has made updated firmware for its little EOS M camera available for download on its website
EOS M Firmware Vn 2.0.2

Improvements listed include
1. Improves focusing speed in One-Shot AF mode.
2. Now supports EF-M 11-22mm f/4-5.6 IS STM.

I think Canon missed an opportunity here, main reason for the update is really support for the new lens, improved focussing speed is useful for many people but not had a problem myself. Whats missing is something like "focus peeking" for manual focus situations - something I have found to be hit and miss. Tried the new firmware this morning, seems OK.

Interesting - if you click on the image above to get full display, seems to crop the width. If you use the sliders, then can see the full width. Must be a maximum/optimum width for images to be used here

Had a chance to play some more with the updated firmware but using EF lenses with the adapter. Mostly used the EF 35mm F2.0 and focus accuracy with this was excellent as well as fast. Problem remains with this camera, that to check focus accuracy you have to be in manual focus mode when you can zoom in to check the image - either that or check after the image is captured.

An image taken handheld and autofocus plus a 100% view. Colours loose a lot of their vibrancy on conversion by Lightroom to JPEG - probably sRGB conversion. Its a lovely sensor in this little camera
