Jerry,

Have you still got the electronic manual for the scanner on your PC?

If not I may be able to arrange to make a copy available or it could be available for download on an Epson web site.

Quite useful as there are a few foibles that are worth refreshing one's memory about from time to time, especially related to what will and won;t work under certain circumstances as far as the software is concerned.

This is away from film scanning, but when doing reflective I don’t think the scanner needs any ‘reference’ points. I believe the white pad is simply to hold documents flat, as I frequently scan without it, and also with the lid completely raised, to give a black background to botanical scans.
Don’t suppose the V700 is any different to the 4990 in this respect?

bez,

You may be right but the first few mm of the glass are definitely required for film scanning with holders for colour set up, according to the manual.

I must admit that my mental image as I typed was of my old Umax scanner which does not do film but does have a separate glass strip before the platten area that is required for pre-scan calibration it seems.

Attempting to multi task this morning as the Wi-Fi connection to my Broadband service is playing up. And I must start my Xmas shopping .... !
