Kevin,

She spells her name Caitlin. I personally like the harsh of the three you did.
Thanks so much for the help. Now I need to see if I can replicate it.

Greg hits the nail – nevermind PS, it all depends how you title it. This could be anything from cute portrait to the next Tarantino star

Thanks for that kind comment, Bez.

Charlie, to elaborate a bit more, the "bratty" look (and believe me, Doc, I mean no offense whatsoever) is quite in vogue these days, and it's not all very easy to accomplish (without a pro model who has the look down-pat).....yet you managed by simply honking off Caitlin. :P

Gee, I've never honked off either of my kids. <smirk>

When I try these sort of shots, I get an "I don't want to be doing this look" from my adult kids, the results of same are worthless. Be it by happenstance or whatever, I still content you've captured a gem (and I find myself a tad bit jealous)......and there are multiple manipulation / BW conversion possibilities.

Greg & Bez,

We sent Caitlin to modeling school about 4 years ago. The photographers loved her. It was all about her eyes. I'll scan a print tomorrow morning and try another B&W conversion for us guys.

Greg it's difficult dealing with teenagers at my age......

Charlie, glad you liked one version.

The mono conversion was done through a strong blue/cyan filter that was picked from the sweater colour & saturation increased (by experimentation) to 100%. I'm not sure how PS works, but biasing the conversion towards B would probably do the same - or possibly just using the B channel. The harshness came from stretching the dynamic range of the shot, clipping/compressing the highlights a bit and compressing the shadows. There's a tonal range between the sweater and skin tones which has little in it (except the under eye shadows), this can be compressed to increase contrast in the skin tones, adding to the harshness.

What makes you think I do? :D

Perhaps I'd be better making this into a tutorial - Charlie, please may I use the shot for tutrial purposes? The posted colour original is fine.

I really like your work. Seems the slight blurring of the sweater and skin rendition really "pop" your versions.

Thanks for sharing...
