Camera Raw/CS2 file location

Postby john frum » Sat Mar 22, 2008 3:24 pm

Hi folks
the depression, whilst a little reduced, is now a little different.

I am trying to build my new PC, transferring everything over (duplication: a cause of some potential confusion).
Having installed CS2, I'm d*mned if I can work out how to install the Camera Raw utility. I've searched my old installation but just can't figure out how this is implemented even though I did it about a year ago.
I have downloaded the Camera Raw.8Bi file from the Adobe site but can find no equivalent in the old installation.
Could someone please put me out of my misery?

Nb. I'll post something on the hardware forum about my experience of building myself a new pc.

Hi John,

ACR should just 'be there' after a CS2 install. On upgrading ACR, you're clear that ACR v3.7 is the one you need, right? No higher version, will work with CS2.

This should be the proper link, and the install/upgrade info is about 1/4 down the page.

Does this help or did I miss the point of your question, John?
Cheers,

Hi Greg
Well, I recall updating it when I did the original install (I bought a D200 and I think this was the reason for the update).
Right now Camera Raw is greyed out in the new installation of CS2.
Any further comment?

Hmm,
Is ACR 'there' (does it exist and work) after a clean install and before upgrade attempt? XP or Vista?

What happens when you try to open a RAW from another app directly? (ie, Bridge, or Lightroom, or some cataloger....) Do you get any particular GUI?

This is odd....still thinking.

John,
Did you remember to move or rename the original .8bi plug-in file when you moved the new one in?

Also, Adobe is saying it belongs here;
Program Files/Common Files/Adobe/Plug-Ins/CS2/File Formats
Far be it from me to second-guess an Adobe instruction, but that doesn't sound right (it might be)

Maybe search your hard drive for *.8bi just to double check which folder your CS2 plug-ins reside? I'm off to check a CS2 installation on one of my other PC's.....be back.
Cheers,

Hi Greg
well, it's there all right. But CS2 still doesn't see NEFs.
New install, XP (although it's an OEM that I didn't yet register as I've had so many build problems and I didn't want to start changing cards - or god forbid, the processor) so I'm not equipped with all current patches. Could be that, I guess. Nothing else isn't working though.
Puzzling.

PPPSSS
Well, updating it to the latest version seemed to do the trick Greg. DUH!
Many thanks for the sanity check!

Good catch, John.....
This was just covered somewhere else and I should have thought of it immediately. Same problem. Stupid memory.
