external 3800 waste ink tank?

Postby lcdes » Sat Aug 01, 2009 9:07 am

hi guys, i have been using 3800 for 2 years, each time when the waste ink tank is full, i have to buy another new set, i am wondering if i can install an external waste ink bottle and bypass the builtin waste ink tank?

How would you resolve the sensor chip issue? I assume the printer wouldn't work without one.

You can buy chip resetters for ink cartridges but I don’t know if anyone would bother to make one for the waste tank?
I did wonder exactly how the chip works; if it measures the weight (unlikely) you could simply replace the absorbent wadding …

.. but have a look at this: http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/inkjet/16333
and this: http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/arti ... _tank.html
looks like it could be a risky thing to do?

the sensor chip for 3800 is the way epson monitor or control the waste ink level. you must buy it from time to time when it gets full, or buy a inkrepbulic 3800 refillable cartridges system to by pass the sensor chip. here is the one -

Just to note that I'd heard there should be a resetter available to reset the waste ink chip on some Epson tanks but I haven't heard of one specifically for the 3800 yet.

In terms of tank(s), I can easily provide one if someone can provide some pics of the outlet the 3800 has... :)

I got the trick to reset waste ink tank of canon.May be it will work on epson.
1>Turn off the printer.
2>Press and hold the RESUME button, then press and hold the POWER button.
3> Release the RESUME button, Next press and release the RESUME button two(2) more times in
succession.
4> Press the RESUME button 4 times, this will select the clear waste ink counter function. The lamp
will alternate (change) color with each key press.
1. Service/Factory test printout, including ink sensor check.
2. EEPROM - Info printout.
3. EEPROM - Initialization.
4. Reset the Waste ink counter.
5. Printer model setting.
After selecting the desired mode, press the POWER button to "set" the change, Press the POWER button again to restart the printer.

Other than using the Inkrepublic.com i-refill system it is not possible to reset the waste tank chip. However: there is a solution for this problem: it can only be reset before it reports empty (I think before it reaches below 5 %). That is using a special Epson Pro 3800 resetter:

and this youtube movie:

So there is a solution to overcome this.
