Single white line on A3+ prints.

Postby 168 on Tue Apr 24, 2007 12:11 pm

I've an image resized in CS to 36cmx20cm printing on borderless A3+ paper. I printed it last night but found a single thin white line across the print about 45% of the way through printing. I thought this might be a one off, so I printed a similar image again this morning with the same result. It looks as though the printer advances the paper too far but only once during the entire print. Any ideas?

Edit:

Should have used the search facility  . It's a known problem with the HP plugin (windows) and 5 months after reading about it it appears HP still haven't bothered sorting it out.

Thanks HP - cost me some wasted paper & ink & time

Hi,
I take it you printed the image in portrait format. Is the thin white line 125mm from the top of the print? If so, if you print the same image in landscape, the "thin white line" will not appear. Just turn it through 90 degrees.

Yes it was printed in portrait mode, but the line appears ~230mm from the top edge of the page, 175mm from the edge of the image.
I'm loath to use the plug-in under any circumstance until this bug is fixed.

Hi 168,
I don't think your problem is the known bug in the photoshop plug-in. The known bug produced a thin white line all across the print at 125mm from the top. The line is so fine that you have to look for it in some prints and I only had it on A3+ printed borderless. Print the same image in landscape and there is no problem.
As far as HP is concerned, they are totally useless, you will not get any help from them. I suggest you get in touch with your supplier and demand a replacement printer without delay.
HP is, without doubt, the worst manufacturer I have ever encountered as far customer service is concerned. Their Irish agent told me "he has no time to deal with complaints or queries" and HP themselves are impossible to contact, other than by their automated reply system. I gather there is an Indian gentleman out there somewhere but you are better off not reaching him by all accounts!!!!!
Having said that, the quality of the prints is superb and I have overcome the minor problems (which HP should have fixed) with the help of the people on this web site. I am more than happy with the 9180 but not with HP. I hope you get your problem sorted.
