Known
for the versatile and incisive nature of his work, Snowdon has chronicled
some of the most prominent characters of our time. From October to November 2002 he is to show a selection of captivating photographs in an exhibition
of his work entitled 'Interior Personalities'. The exhibition will take
place at LINLEY, 60 Pimlico Road. For Snowdon, it is an apt return to
Pimlico Road, the location of his first photographic studio in the 1950s.
'Interior
Personalities' comprises over 30 cropped and intimate black and white
photographs Film stars, writers, musicians, actors, intellectuals, artists,
entrepreneurs and designers are gathered together as the subjects of his
vision. In each case the lens looks through the eyes of the sitter and
beyond, teasing out aspects of character and emotion in a guileful search
for hidden identities. The postures of lives lived in the public gaze
are dispelled as Snowdon captures what is often concealed - an interior
moment.
Included
in the exhibition will be photographs of Uma Thurman, David Bowie, Jude
Law, Gianni Versace, Greta Scacchi, Rachel Weisz, Anthony Blunt, Lady
Diana Mosley, Tom Cruise, Boy George and Dame Betty Boothroyd.
"Interior
Personalities" is supported by Olympus, with whom Snowdon has held
a long-standing relationship. "Unlike most camera manufacturers",
Snowdon comments "Olympus take a great personal interest in professional
photographers and I have always found them a pleasure to deal with".
Graeme Chapman, Managing Director of Olympus, comments "Olympus has
always been proud of our association and friendship with Lord Snowdon.
It was natural that when this project was first mentioned, Olympus was
the partner. As always, the whole concept utilises Lord Snowdon's creative
genius to the full".
