Jessops, the UK’s leading photographic retailer, is a proud sponsor of the world record-breaking biggest ever photo mosaic.
More than 110,000 pictures, uploaded through the website www.inthebigpicture.co.uk and collected at Jessops stores across the West Midlands, were used to create The Big Picture – a mosaic the size of three tennis courts, which was unveiled outside Thinktank at Birmingham's Millennium Point on Saturday.
The overall work of art recreated a photograph submitted by Lucy Moore, of amateur boxer Arthur Bunce which was taken in 1926.
In addition to the mosaic paying tribute to Lucy in a work of art measuring 30 metres by 30 metres, she will also receive £200 of vouchers from Big Picture sponsor, Jessops.
Helen Marshall, Artist was commissioned by Audiences Central to lead the final phase and making of The Big Picture. She worked with photo mosaic specialists PollyTiles to realise the enormous image made up of 112, 896 photographs submitted by the public

Kerry Endsor, project manager for The Big Pictures, said: “We were determined that the final mosaic image should reflect one of the photos received from the public, but the great thing about The Big Picture is that every single submitted photo was used in the mosaic, so all of our contributors were part of the world record!”
Karen Lamerick, head of marketing at Jessops, says: “This is a fascinating project and the sheer scale and complexity of the finished mosaic has to be seen to be believed.
“From a distance, visitors will see the overall image, while close up each individual entry can be seen, and each has its own story to tell.
"We’re proud to have been involved in this Guinness World Record and would like to thank everyone who participated by bringing their special photograph into one of our West Midlands stores.”
The Big Picture is run by Birmingham-based Audiences Central for Arts Council England, West Midlands.
The previous record for the largest photo mosaic was set in April 2008 by P&G Pampers in Shanghai, China. It comprised 105,196 baby photos collected online.
