Driver & Utility installation Generally I would expect to install a printers drivers before loading up the media, but I am sure it will all become obvious as I progress. As mentioned earlier I am using a USB 2.0 connection for this review, I mention this again because the installation process will look for the printer port and will assign this to the printer. If I were to re-connect to say Firewire then the computer will tell me it has found new hardware. I have turned the power off on the printer and inserted the installation CD. The installation program takes care of everything, although on the second screen you have the option to install the "EPSON Printer Service Utility 2" , you must select the Advanced button for this.
The entire installation took about 3 minutes. Also on the CD is a 396 page user manual in PDF format. For a printer costing the best part of £2000 I would have expected a printed manual - even my £450 washing machine was supplied with a full colour manual. I wonder what the ink and paper cost would be to print this manual out on the 4000? The manual is well illustrated and very clearly laid out.
Looking at the printers Properties (via Control panel > Printers & Faxes). Despite loading roll media, the paper available is indicating A4 - perhaps this is just for creating the test print (I still haven't printed anything yet). Under the Colour Management tab there is a list of 22 different media that are automatically selected according to the settings you set. I will look at colour management in more detail later in the review.
I will be printing for the next hour or two and will publish the results during the rest of the day - keep pressing your F5 key to refresh the pages.
