35mm....... an afterthought
On page 2 of this review I did some of the scans with SilverFast and some with EPSON Scan. Looking at the scans on page three I was not overstruck at the image quality of the V750, so I have just repeated the scans but this time using EPSON Scan software, again with no USM applied in the scanning stage.

The Epson Scan scans display more contrast, resulting in an apparent increase in image sharpness. I tried to improve the image by applying more Unsharp Masking (370 - 1.8 - 0.0) but I suspect that the scanner reaches its maximum resolution at about 3200 dpi. I also tried the scanner height adjusters, the best results were obtained at the maximum height setting of 3.5mm.
Just to keep things in perspective, I also printed this picture on an A3+ sheet of glossy media and at normal viewing distance it looks very sharp. Under close inspection it holds up well and should satisfy even the most demanding of users. The detail enlargements above are perhaps unfair to the scanner, but serve to show how much detail can be extracted from a flatbed film scanner.
