Day 6.Using the 7960 for text. Although I am not keen on testing text documents with photo printers, but I appreciate that many users will not have the luxury or the space for two printers. One printer has to do it all. HP have an excellent reputation for their business printers, laser and inkjet, so I am going to expect the best results from this printer. For text documents you should use the No 56 ink which contains a pigment black ink. I printed a page using the No 59 and then with the No 56 installed. The No 56 produced the best text with a good solid black and near laser quality. Interestingly, the colour graphics on the sheet with the 56 were richer and deeper than on the 59 sheet. There is a small amount of furring on the edges of the characters at the magnification shown below, this is not visible with the naked eye. For this test I used Kodak plain paper. Print time took 26 seconds for an A4 sheet.
Although a primarily a photo printer, the above samples show that the 7960 is more than capable of producing professional looking text documents. I should also mention that there are a couple of optional accesories available. A Two Sided Printing accessory to print greeting cards, brochures, newsletters and other two sided documents. This fits on the rear of the printer and a 250 sheet paper tray that sits under the printer. Neither units were supplied for this review.
